THE RESULTS ARE IN.

Interesting numbers involved in the votes for office bearers at SNP conference – maybe not all delegates voted but surely most would have voted for national secretary but only a total of 822 votes! No wonder the party was emailing members the evening before conference asking members if they wanted to be delegates! Annual National Conference Elections 2022

MY COMMENTS

I am struck by how few votes are now required to become a NEC member. To give an example have a look at the West of Scotland region where only 26 votes were required for victory. This is a Party that claims 119,000 members, the West of Scotland must account for at least 15,000 of those numbers but only 50 votes in total were cast. When you look at this voting, just over 800 votes in the most contested election there seems very few people involved in these elections. Now I know it is delegates voting but the West of Scotland has has 9 constituencies within it and there should also be a lot of branch delegates as well. Yet 26 votes, under 3 per constituency were sufficient for victory? These numbers do not suggest a dynamic Party rather a lethargic one with fading involvement from the grassroots.

I AM, AS ALWAYS

YOURS FOR SCOTLAND

BEAT THE CENSORS

Unfortunately some pro Indy websites are not pro Indy. They are pro SNP sites and ban any content on their sites which dares to question the SNP or the SNP leader. They seek to censor discussion and free expression. Fortunately many of my readers share the articles on Yours for Scotland frequently and because of this the attempted censorship is proving ineffective. This support is very important and I thank everyone who share and protect freedom of speech and choice.

SALVO

The progress of Salvo has been the most encouraging development of 2022. It is doing sterling work educating Scots about the Claim of Right and spelling out what it means that the Scottish people are sovereign, not any Parliament. All donations to this site for the remainder of 2022 will be forwarded to Salvo to support them in developing and expanding this valuable work.

LIBERATION.SCOT

Please register at Liberation.scot and join the mass membership organisation that will be the signatories to our application to the UN, debate and organise a new Scottish Constitution. The membership of Liberation is also where the first members of Scotland’s National Congress will be balloted for selection.

  1. Remember of course that all councillors, MP’s, MSP’s can be delegates. There are also delegates from Branches and CA’s.
Seems like a lot of people avoided conference. Would that be due to the lack of debate on important issues? Considering it is only a year till the supposed referendum, they must have all left ‘enthused’ by those they have elected. No wonder the economic paper was delayed till after conference!

  2. Well, well, it’s looks as if they have come to a sorry pass. It doesn’t suggest a healthy party does it. Oh well, hell mend them. Has Josh Mennie’s mammy complained yet aboot her wee boy no being elected.

  3. The SNP may say they have 119,000 members but these election results reflect a hardly functioning party.

The example of the West of Scotland is an example of a party on its absolute knees. Three votes per constituency. That is absolutely unbelievable. Death is written all over the party and no amount of spin will cover it up.

A flood of departed members, a rump of disinterested left, will all too soon be followed by a departed and disinterested electorate. And the cull of the fat elected turkeys is set to follow. Of that there is no doubt.

But a new movement, will, and is arising. And this rump think they can speak for the Yes movement.

    1. I have no idea what their membership is, but i would wager it is nowhere near the claimed figure. The second implication from these figures is that what members they do have are inactive sub payers with no active involvement in their branches. Which is what you might think exactly what the Sturgeon clique have toiled for so long to achieve.

As an aside, read Richard Murphy’s demolition of their feeble, incoherent plans around a Scottish currency. Written, he concludes, by people who appear to not really want independence at all. Richard is a professor of economics who runs a blog and twitter feed which have been a source of economic analysis for many years. He has shredded the tories for years, with forensic analysis of their ruinous policies, and had hoped the Scots would be more enlightened, ie he was not unsympathetic to an indy Scotland. With that kind of analysis, as he rightly says, the prospect of a SNP Scotland is very discouraging to many who might otherwise support independence. What a catastrophe this SNP is, at a time when the arguments should be a shoo-in.

  4. And another thing, what pride can those elected to positions take, in being elected on, as is the case in the West of Scotland, with voting as low as 26 votes.

    Some National Party – eh?

  5. It seems Graham Campbell is “out” (though still on the conferences committee). Does anyone have any insight on the other personalities elected or not? Are they all NuSNP or were the dying embers of the mainstream party still trying to “change things”?

  6. The problem isn’t the lack of members and thus delegates in the SNP. The problem is the number of voters in the street that are still voting for them unaware of the hollowing out of the party and its takeover by grifters and entrists. The SNP can go down in flames for all I care; it’s independence that’s my priority, not a particular party.

Glad Graham Campbell missed out on election, though Declan Blench is a charmer, not!

The decline of the SNP continues. Apparently, their candidate for the Linn ward by-election in Glasgow’s own FB page doesn’t mention indy at all. It does, however, go on about Pride and drag queens. Makes you hope for a Labour hold unless ISP or Alba can field a candidate!

    1. Alba are fielding a candidate but unfortunately a lot of folk don’t put their brain in gear before they stick their cross on the ballot paper. People vote over and over for the same party out of habit and laziness of thinking, plus local elections generally have a poor turnout. It’s enough to make you weep in despair. I know the Labour Party have chosen their candidate and are already out on the campaign trail.
If anyone can spare a couple of hours please get out and help Alba campaign

  7. I was surprised how few names I had heard of on that list and a few of those I had it was in a negative context. Sad to see a few of the Alba stalwarts still nipping away at Salvo as it is not a good look and is unlikely to swell the membership.

      1. I do think at least one SALVO apologist needs to be more constantly in our face. There is an impressive and growing amount of relevant documentation on the Salvo site, but it really needs mediated off-site to general Yes supporters. Even at least to point folk to an appropriate document when questions arise here on Iain Lawson’s blog or elsewhere. There are clearly many on board in principle but with legitimate serious reservations still needing addressed. Others are more decisively not on board because their concerns have not been adequately allayed. “Go read!” doesn’t work for everyone. An example of a root-level question is “How can any constituted-out-of-thin-air Convention of Estates legitimately outrank and actually over-rule Holyrood in practice without a full-on revolution against the British State and Media and ultimately indeed the Military?”. I know we are promised some kind of definitive video launch on Nov 5th. I confess to not being reassured by the trailer. I found the whole extended “V for Vendetta” sequence of Westminster exploding bit by bit unsettling, even with the word “METAPHOR” coming up as disclaimer.

SALVO’s main document hoard is here: https://salvo.scot/resources/

      2. I would just like to clarify that I would not have posted the above if I had seen what Sara Salyers faced at the Conference on Saturday morning, ie the line-up of contrary speakers after her being Neale Hanvey, Alex Salmond and Kenny MacAskill. I have just watched it. Not sure yet what to make of it. Sara speaks at about 29 mins 30 secs —

    1. I’m not sure what the fight was about. However, we need as many people using as many different likely avenues to indy as we can. I’m sure most routes are compatible with each other OR don’t impinge on the others. As much as Sturgeon’s reliance on section 30 is bad, it’s also bad to pooh pooh other routes that might work. Suggest ways they could work better yes, but say it’s my ball, I’m not playing – no!

  8. When checking the commons archive for yesterday there seems to be big chunk of the video record missing so cant recall who said it but an MP on (I think) opposition benches, Graham Stringer maybe, mentioned what I thought he said was the suspiciously yuge size of the Chinese consulate in Manchester.. any possibility that lockdowns were used to move any/all of those who appear to be missing in action to its basement?

  9. So many ‘Women Only’ lists with no candidates. Where have all the women gone? Where does the figure for 119,000 members come from? I find it hard to believe..

    1. Women have voted with their feet and left the party. I suspect it’s got a lot to do with realising their views regarding the gender recognition act are “not valid”. Hell mend them is all I can say. Women are 51% of the population and were the hardest to convince of the merits of independence so I can’t help but feel this obsession with genderis a deliberate strategy to scupper independence

  10. I find it amazing that in 5 years I only recognise a handful of names now ( …and not in a good way).
I think many members are loyal to “the Party” but drawing further and further back from direct involvement. The silent members appear to be waiting for sanity to return. Sadly their detachment is making the situation much worse. Idiots like Menie and Campbell are getting the Cult votes which are now a fair proportion of the votes being cast. Those like Sameeha Rehman are getting closer thanks to her grovelling worship of Sturgeon. The message is clear to all ambitious career activists…you must win the Sturgeon Cult to build your power base.
I remember when Independence was more important than personal agendas.

When you manage to minimise the numbers who can actually vote it is far easier to control the outcome.
    Sturgeon logic

So glad I left this cesspit. My only regret is staying too long.

      2. Correction we can not be Margo as she is unique to her but what I meant is that if you really believe in something with such a passion it will come out. Believe me there’s plenty of ladies out there who are daeing this and will do it, it’s just that they are unseen or maybe not in politics because they don’t want to be.

    2. And Swinney put her 5th on the list vote a position she could NOT possibly win a seat from, tipped off to what he was up to, she LEFT the party, & stood & won as an INDEPENDENT that is how much SWINNEY wanted INDY. He wanted rid of their greatest asset, Just as Sturgeon did with ALEX.. If you want INDY & are better people as well as politicians than Sturgeon & SWINNEY & the cabal they surround themselves with. Then they do NOT want you in the party..

Aye we are so supreme that we allow our resources and our country to be robbed by other people and spend our time arguing amongst ourselves instead of getting it together and bypassing the bullshit.
