SLEEPWALKING

This a letter from Iain Bruce. He sent it to the National but it was not published. Fortunate for me because I am happy to publish it here.

Sleepwalking

In Holyrood yesterday we heard the profound words of the First Minister “We must not sleepwalk into an emergency that for both health and business will be much greater as a result of inaction than it will be if we act firmly and strongly now,” she said.

And to think she could have avoided sleepwalking into this emergency long before COVID appeared on the horizon to pose such a threat to our way of life and when she had multiple mandates for Independence.

Why is it possible for Denmark using it’s own krone, New Zealand with it’s “kiwi dollar” and Costa Rica with it’s colón to cope with the same vicissitudes of a pandemic yet Nicola Sturgeon must go cap in hand to HM Treasury?
Oh of course, they’re independent countries. And while her supplication, Oliver Twist style, illustrates there’s no better example of the bankruptcy of Andrew Wilson Sustainable Growth Commission, oh how Ian Blackford’s pantomime audience in the Commons must love all this.

Enough of supplication. Enough of reasonableness for when we emerge from the current crisis it truly will be into a different world if not a New Stone Age.

We need to be biased in our own collective self interests and our pursuit of Independence and these past few weeks have demonstrated like nothing in the previous 18 months that the Rule Britannia brigade have nothing but contempt for their northern British neighbours.

Can there be any clearer evidence that Scotland’s leaders are fiddling while Scotland burns in the face of an ever malignant and venal Westminster operation?

The Scottish government have been preoccupied by a pandemic which appeared on the horizon a mere two years or so ago, such a pity we’ve been constitutional comatose since that fateful day in September 2014 and now finding multiple flocks of chickens coming home to roost.

There can be no better illustration that Ms Sturgeon’s peculiarly exceptionalist idea of a Section 30 Agreement, despite its gold standard credentials, must be confined to history. Interesting isn’t it that no other country in the history of independence movements has felt the need for such a gold standard.

Surely it’s clear for all to see that the First Minister is in grave danger of sleep walking into the land of diminishing returns by continually blaming Westminster in the torpor of the great mandate profligacy.

  1. I stopped getting the National after the million distribution. It is now with a very few exceptions, simply a Nicola fanzine.
Iain is absolutely right, but we know that nothing will happen. The Murrell faction now have complete control of the SNP and what Nicola wants she will get.
So how do we fight back?

    1. I stopped a good couple of years ago for the very same reason. It’s like a delusional newsletter for the SNP, with the odd interesting contributor (mainly Lesley Riddoch). The WGD column is an extension of his blog, which is basically the same piece of writing every time with a few details changed to reflect whatever the burning issue of the day is. It’s most common source of information appears to be Twitter, as if that were some sort of Oracle. It started so well and has become oh-so bland and disappointing.

    2. Edward I would like to start fighting back by EVERY citizen in Scotland being aware of the systemic failures carried out by Sturgeon and her cabal of incompetents in the face of the Covid pandemic

      https://www.gov.scot/publications/foi-202000026935/

In 2015 there was a preparedness Exercise named SILVER SWAN took place to examine what was required of all government bodies and institutions to prepare or obviate a influenza pandemic
In Dec 2016 a review was held by the SG with 95 delegates to assess the outcome and preparedness of the exercise

Looking at what has been happening over the last 2 years and the complete shambles Sturgeon has presided over including placing elderly patients from hospitals into care homes resulting in the death of many elderly loved ones from covid IMO indicates that either Exercise Silver Swan was a jolly enjoyed by those and such as those , lessons that should have been learned were NOT implemented , the agencies involved FAILED in their preparations , the hierarchy of the agencies involved ignored or evaded the recommendations proposed , the officials involved were denied the ability to carry out the lessons learned from the exercise either through financial constraint or ignorance

The DEBACLE of insufficient PPE and unregulated PPE put many of our health workers at extreme risk of serious health repercussions and possible death , a major requirement treated with indolence and incompetence , which indicates that there are serious questions having to be asked and answered by those who were responsible for learning lessons from the Silver Swan exercise

  2. The very, very mad woman of Holyrood.

Cui bono? certainly not for the good of my generation or the mental health of the many.
We must be rid of the diabolical fear of our own shadows and its manipulative and sinister purveyors.

«False flag operations are used because people generally do not have access to the details, so they are prone to rely upon what they’re told, and thus are easily deceived. People will, for the most part, believe what they are told in times of crisis, and so government officials, whether their motives are good or evil, capitalize on or completely fabricate the crises»

    1. What are our freedoms today – being allowed to attend a football match, a pop concert “IF” we follow the rules and have all our jabs, and a passport downloaded onto our smartphone. Freedom Aye right. we are slowly but surely sliding into becoming an authoritarian country,

    2. Many seem to be under the impression that NZ under the ‘caring’ wing of Jacinda Ardern has coped well through the pandemic. Her strong leadership enabled her to take stringent lock down measures and control over the citizens, I suggest that she is a totally fake person who has fooled the people into thinking that she is doing this because she cares about their health….when actually as a participant in the Young Global Leader program of the World Economic Forum, she is doing the exact opposite and merely following the orders of her masters. I see a lot of similarities in style between her and Nicola, praying on humanity and feign caring, while actually feeling nothing. This article in The Daily Telegraph, NZ shows how stringent her government have been in ensuring the safety and health of the people….NOT. https://dailytelegraph.co.nz/news/pfizer-document-concedes-that-there-is-a-large-increase-in-types-of-adverse-event-reaction-to-its-vaccine/?fbclid=IwAR2B5gzB8cYw4B5w7pDpZJvOnd_BsQwrgJX3hCzLH6AW_Ro8sXlcDusmbSg

      1. They are both Globalist puppets, like so many political leaders across the planet at present. I have to agree with a comment l heard recently that Sturgeon and Ardern seem to be positively revelling to in their new roles as dictators. This cannot be allowed to continue much longer or we will have no rights left and democracy will be a thing of the past.

      2. Yes, these two women display remarkably similar mindsets, believing that they are leaders of progressive policy. They are the opposite. Both display a more-than-noticeable addiction to populist propaganda and shallow thinking. Both display a regressive, authoritarian bent, and are not for turning once they have decided, no matter how destructive their policies are for the majority of the population. The Maori people of New Zealand are undergoing a second colonial expansion – entirely for their own good, of course, as are the Scots, in a slightly different way.

      3. At least New Zealand’s prime minister did not treat the population of her country as disposable, as our First MInister appears to do, so preoccupied she is for doing the dirty work of westminster and denying us any opportunity to progress independence.

Over 10,000 Scottish people lost their lives directly to the virus and goodness knows how many more indirectly to it because they could not access the care they needed. Scotland’s economy shattered and the NHS in dire straits because this First Minister could not possibly bring herself to break the illusion of a functioning political union by using the power put in her hands by the people of Scotland to end the union or, at least, close the effing border with England to stop the new covid variants coming in and protect the Scottish people.

Exposing us to the virus, insulting us by calling us racists for asking her to close the borders, locking us down depriving us of our rights and freedoms and trashing the economy is all completely acceptable for Nicola Sturgeon, but closing the effing border to stop the variants coming in, clearly is not. Evidently, for Nicola Sturgeon maintaining the illusion of a functioning UK is far more important than the lives, the rights and the safeguard of the democratic freedoms of the Scottish people she claims to represent.

Over 10,000 Scottish people’s lives lost to COVID under the incompetent hand of Sturgeon versus 50 deaths in New Zealand

        10,000/50 = 200.

The useless and incompetent approach of Sturgeon has led to Scotland experiencing 200 times more deaths than New Zealand.

I do not know how anybody in the SNP can ever justify that level of unnecessary loss of lives. I don’t know how anybody across the political spectrum can ever claim that keeping the border with England open for these 2 years is worth more than the lives of over 10,000 Scottish people.

  3. Whilst I agree that the National has its failings, I can report that they DID publish the letter on the 23rd in the online edition, if not the printed one. And a very good letter it is too so it merits publishing elsewhere!

  4. I wish it was sleepwalking, Iain and Iain. Most of it has been quite deliberate and the rest a consequence of the deliberate actions that went before. Our situation has all the hallmarks of a very real tragedy.

  5. You’ve said Mr Bruce, what many of us are thinking, that Scotland appears to be the only one that requires a gold standard S30 from a foreign country to rejoin the world again, we all know and as Craig Murray has said no route through London leads to Scottish independence, so why is our FM determined to pursue this deadend route, and worse still she won’t even consider a Plan B.

This leaves Scotland in a state of limbo, Groundhog Day if you like, where no progression on independence is made, as mandate after mandate is squandered by Sturgeon. also the SNP under Sturgeon appears to be hostile to those who suggest other routes to independence, non-action on the indyfront will go on until at least 2023, and dare I say they’ll be something else that materialises that blocks an indyref or a plebiscitary election.

Even Martin Geissler said on the Sunday Politics show a few weeks back that why hasn’t there been any movement on the indyfront, citing that the SNP government hadn’t included anything in its business for 2022 with Scottish independence in mind- so basically they’ll be no preparations next year for a supposed indyref the following year.

  6. Sturgeon has the seats ( abuse of the Indy vote hopes)
Sturgeon has the Police and the Courts.
Sturgeon has the Media. (The National is a fanzine but the Unionist media want to keep her as well)

We have to pull it down and start again. When she gets the votes at elections by pretending to be the Party of Independence she has a blank cheque for another parliamentary period for bringing in policies we don’t agree with.
Madness is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome.

I would prefer it if it was only the Sturgeon Cult that had to go but it looks like we have to split the movement to move forward long term.

  8. The Dark Queen has change her allegiance, she lies and plays us for fools while the evil empire gathers its numbers for referendum which has been fixed in the favour of the rotten, corupt to the core union. The voting franchise is rigged and we are being strung along till enough settlers inhabit our land so they can take it over claiming it’s the Democratic will of the Scottish people. 1 million settlers are now living here. Brothers and Sisters if we dont get rid of Queen covid it will be soon be to late, We are sleepwalking into becoming part of a greater England.

  9. “The Scottish government have been preoccupied by a pandemic which appeared on the horizon a mere two years or so ago”

I wish I could believe Sturgeon and her government were ever preoccupied by this pandemic instead of using it as an opportunity to continue doing the dirty work for Westminster of denying us independence, democracy, restricting our liberties and denying us the exercise in self determination we have been asking for, for seven years.

New Zealand has demonstrated that the way to control this pandemic is by closing the borders. If this First Minister really wanted to control the pandemic, she would have closed the darn border of Scotland with England. Instead, what she has done is to force us into continuous lockdowns while she allowed variant after variant after variant after variant to enter Scotland and with them convenient excuses for her to continue denying us independence.

That she did not have the power to close the border is not credible when the SNP has had the power to end the union since 8th May 2015 and when the control of the NHS is devolved. If those borders were not closed is because she chose not to, not because she couldn’t

Over 8,000 Scottish people lost their lives unnecessarily because this First Minister chose to play the unionist game of the 4 nation approach and keep the illusion of a functioning political union for the sake of England, rather than doing what a country leader is expected to do which was to act in the interests of the country she was elected to represent, which is Scotland nor England, and to protect the country’s biggest asset, which is its population.

Sadly, it seems that it is not only our time, assets and powers that this First Minister considers disposable. It seems our lives are also disposable in her eyes when it comes to continue denying us democracy and independence.

The over 8,000 lives lost unnecessarily to this virus because of this First Minister’s obstinacy of not closing the borders, the enormous damage to the economy caused by lockdown after lockdown after lockdown after lockdown, necessary to control the virus because of her obstinacy of not closing the borders, and the refusal to deliver our democratic mandates are not the fault of Westminster. They are the fault of a political fraud that has the democratic mandate for them and has had the power to end this union since 2015 but has chosen to use the pandemic as an excuse to continue denying us independence and now is preparing to use the extensive damage caused by the lockdowns she inflicted on us for not closing the borders, as her next excuse to continue denying us independence.
