STIRLING DIRECTIVE ADVANCE PRESS RELEASE.

The #StirlingDirective –  Advance Press release

On Saturday 22 Julyexactly 317 years to the day when the details of the disastrous Treaty of Union were agreed, a group of writers, speakers and activists from across Scotland’s Independence movement will launch a new, national campaign, the Stirling Directive.

The Directive represents a radical departure from the old, worn out approach to Scottish self-determination. This approach does not ask permission of anyone. Instead, it stands on the authority of the Scottish people alone, an authority that, rightfully, outranks all others:

It affirms the sovereignty of Scotland’s people

It upholds the constitutional settlement of the ‘Union’

It requires political recognition of the lawful, Scottish constitution

It will pursue our inalienable right of self-determination as guaranteed under international law.

Until now, our elected representatives have sought, and have consistently been refused,Westminster’s permission for rights that belong, inherently, to the people of Scotland, rights guaranteed by the limits and conditions of the Treaty of Union, (the constitutional settlement), and by international law. This must end. The Stirling Directive is committed to ending it now.

We are convinced that terminating the archaic, grotesquely asymmetric and clearly dysfunctional Union with England and restoring Scotland to its rightful status as an independent nation, requires a profound change in the way the people of this nation understand, think and talk about Scotland and the Union.

We maintain that the best and the correct way to achieve this is by raising awareness, informing the people of Scotland of their true, constitutional position and, leading by example, demonstrating the true character of the Union and the inalienable rights of the people. Democracy only works when the people are able to make informed choices. The Stirling Directive intends to enable that informed, democratic choice.

As the people of Scotland become increasingly aware of their rights under the constitutional settlement and international law, they will be empowered to demand that those rights are upheld by our Scottish Government and by all who adhere to fundamental democratic principles. And we fully expect that the people of Scotland will do so.

MY COMMENTS

The full text of the Stirling Directive will be published on this blog on Saturday 22nd July 2023.

I am, as always

YOURS FOR SCOTLAND

BEAT THE CENSORS

Sadly some websites seek to censor what their readers have access to read. This is particularly true of sites whose existence is primarily to support the views of one particular party and they seek to block articles which do not slavishly support that particular doctrine. My readers have worked out that the best way to defeat that attack on the freedom of speech and thought is to share my articles widely, thus defeating any attempt at censorship. My thanks for this.

SALVO AND LIBERATION

Are playing a crucial role in taking Independence forward. This site limits donations to Yours for Scotland to a maximum of £3. We do not need more as all we seek to do is to cover the costs incurred in running the blog therefore once this is secured each year all further donations are forwarded to Salvo and Liberation. My thanks for all who choose to support us in this way. It is appreciated.

  1. Along with the formation of Salvo, this is the most exciting and progressive development since the referendum of 2014 and will be a day to remember for all of us.

It is long past time that the politicians step aside and leave the matter of Scotland’s independence and right to self-determination to the people. It is clearly evident that political parties using the domestic route have failed and will continue to do so because England cannot afford Scottish independence.

However, we still expect the Scottish Government to abide by the law of Scotland and to use those powers within the Constitutional Settlement, to the maximum benefit for the sovereign people of Scotland.

We have listened too long to politicians regularly stating that “the People of Scotland are Sovereign” – yes we are but now is the time for them to realise that sovereignty by acting on the Stirling Directive.

    1. The fact that the people of Scotland are sovereign but Holyrood is not is presenting a very wrong picture to the world. The nuSNP SG does, I think, require permission from Westminster. We do not. Our MPs do not need a transfer of power – these powers are expressed through Westminster on our behalf – but I doubt if the current UKIP UKG would acknowledge it is a majority of Scottish MPs that is needed to end the union – an we absolutely know the pension jockeys in the SNP would not act on this even if they held a forest of mandates.

This initiative is part of a new, bright dawn. This is going places! I have hope now – and I thought Sturgeon had killed all of my dreams – so grateful and proud of this new dawn.

  2. This has to be the way forward.
We can’t keep begging from our occupiers
    they’ll just laugh.
I would hope for a peaceful independence,
    but we can’t surrender forever.

  3. Proclamation of the Irish Republic.

All seven signatories of the proclamation were executed by the British military (James Connolly who had been wounded in the fighting was executed sitting down in a chair) in the aftermath of the Rising, being viewed as having committed treason in wartime (i.e. the First World War).British political leaders regarded the executions initially as unwise, later as a catastrophe, with the British Prime Minister H. H. Asquith and later prime minister David Lloyd George stating that they regretted allowing the British military to treat the matter as a matter of military law in wartime, rather than insisting that the leaders were treated under civilian criminal law. Though initially deeply unsympathetic to the Rising (the leading Irish nationalist newspaper, the Irish Independent called for their execution), Irish public opinion switched and became more sympathetic due to the manner of their treatment and executions.[citation needed] Eventually Asquith’s government ordered a halt to the executions and insisted that those not already executed be dealt with through civilian, not military, law. By that stage, all the signatories and a number of others had been executed.

All WE had to do was put a X on a piece of paper. You still thinking asking nicely will cause London to change its mind. India used Civil disobedience. The SNP could have disrupted Westminster and every committee. They could have refused to take their seats. They could have done many things but instead they behaved like good little house jocks.

The original “lack of support” for the 1915 Easter Rising in Ireland was British propaganda that was spread about at the time. Pity its effects have been so far reaching that even 100+ years later people still believe it and not just in Scotland!
The Rising was not supported by the British Army in Ireland and the Anglo-Irish Ascendancy class but the rest of the population . .?

      1. Thanks for the share. ‘Thoughts on the Easter Week’. The uprising still resonates and informs. While that means of achieving freedom may no longer apply today, Ireland exposed the degree of ruthlesnes that British imperialism was and is still willing to employ to hold on to her ill gotten gains. Sweet reason and politeness is never enough. Civil Rights marches in the 1960’s are testament to that.

  4. If I can be forgiven, allow me to paraphrase the rest of the quotation from Burns:

For Independence is unco shy and only comes when sought, man.

  5. After the obvious infiltration and almost complete castration of the leafing Independence party, Sovereign Scots must get behind this apolitical movement and push forward NOW.

  6. At last, we have the power and clever people who know how to use it. Well done Salvo and Liberation.scot, I for one will be eternally grateful.
Time to get rid of the house jocks, they have not served the Scottish people since 2014.

  7. Well it is long past time that this was out in Scotland, I am certain that once Scots really find out that we are for sure, a Sovereign nation, with all the rights our forefathers fought tooth and nail for.
Now is the time, for Scotland to rise again. Salvo is showing us the way to regain our Independence finally.
All true Scots must hear the call and help this to happen. No more talk, no more if’s and but’s, together we can make it happen.

Leaving this neferious “Union” is a must, for our children, grandchildren and all our well being.
Once done it will be a far happier place to live in ,and to enjoy our new freedom.
If you have not signed up yet to Salvo.scot and Liberation.scot, do so asap, this cannot wait any more.

  8. I hope it goes well for everyone tomorrow. What follows is my post from a stooshie eleswhere, but whilst therefore random, I think it has a relevance:

Consider – courtesy of the UK Supreme Court ruling (if accepted) both the 55% and the 45% have been equally denied the “Right” to vote in a referendum on the future of their country.

Perhaps ironic in the extreme but the efforts involved seek to return that “Right” to all Scots whatever their opinions, and no matter into which % they may fall.

Work through that “Right” to vote from 1689, through 1707, the late 19th century, where men’s right to vote was extended, into the 20th century and women’s rights to vote were finally allowed, and now in the ear;ly part of the 21st century – we have all been denied that “Right”

Perhaps we should call it a “Claim of Right” … and perhaps at the most fundamental of all rights – the “Right” to vote.

(PS – The 55%/45% was used with reluctance by me – it derived from and fitted the stooshie.)

  9. Looking elsewhere I suspect one of our big challenges is the strategic significance of the Icelandic Gap – Scotland matters to the US and the UK for our location … and the thought of treating us as an ally and not a possession is beyond them – over to us to force this home through the teeth of opposition …

  10. Yup marion, you got it right, our answer is likely to be to ECJ, and also the UN. No more asking Westminster or anyone else who may be involved. It is our right and we need to pursue it hard, and win our case.

  12. We need to get rid of the scottish gov. in Westminster and the pretend one in Holirood as they haven’t carried out there manifesto pledges to hold a ref. thereby refusing to do what they were voted in to do by the sovereign Scottish people.
