Secrecy and Green Freeports PREPARE TO BE SHOCKED

Secrecy and Green Freeports

The Westminster / Holyrood partnership to introduce “Green Freeports” to Scotland is a complete betrayal of the people of Scotland.

The Conservative and Unionist Party last won a majority of Scottish MPs in the General Election held on 26 May 1955 and in the following 69 years their representation dwindled until they only held one seat in Scotland after the General Election held in 2015.

However, despite their continual rejection by the people of Scotland, the previous SNP/Green coalition government at Holyrood is now in partnership with the Conservative-led Westminster government to create what they term “Green Freeports” inScotland.

The belated campaign against these Conservative Party creations was slow to start and it was not political opponents that were first to campaign – that was left to Salvo’s Freeports Team.

Salvo is not, and never will become, a political party, although it has members from all independence-seeking parties and from many people with no political party affiliation. Salvo’s interest is to protect our abundant natural resources and our people from the additional plunder about to take place and that has been ongoing for over 3 centuries.

Salvo Freeports Team has held 6 events within the 2 designated “Green Freeport” areas before the political parties considered action.

So, where were the opposition parties that sat back and did nothing on this as far as campaigning against these “Green Freeports” were concerned?

As these Conservative Party creations are intended as tax havens and to exploit Scotland’s abundant natural resources and our people, it was not a surprise that the unionist Labour Party, and Liberal Democrats did nothing.  However, it was surprising to find the Alba Party largely missing in action. The only party actively campaigning against the freeports has been the Independence for Scotland Party (ISP) and they have been solidly behind the campaign from the beginning.

It was only at the last event held in Inverness on 23rd March where we invited a Trade Unionist to speak that he raised the numerous negative impacts for Scottish workers with his Trade Union and that eventually reached the SNP members.  That led to the article in The National titled “Humza Yousaf defends green freeports after SNP members’ concerns”.

So, why is it only now that the SNP members have “concerns”?  After all, the Salvo Freeports Team held its first event at Inverness in September last year!

The deafening silence is due entirely to the huge amount of secrecy that has been placed around these Conservative Party creations being introduced to Scotland.  Everyone knows that the Scottish government as politicians, had they been proud of their actions regarding the freeports, would have exploited every media connection they had. We would be sick hearing about them!  Instead, 95% of Scotland’s people have never even heard of them until now, and the other 5% don’t know the full negative impacts that come with them.

When people do hear the truth about these “Green Freeports” that are neither “green”, nor are they “free”, and they are definitely not “ports” as they take over large areas of our country, they are absolutely shocked and wonder why they have not heard about these until now.

Belatedly, we have Humza Yousaf defending the indefensible.  When we expected the Scottish National Party to stand up for the people of Scotland against the foreign import of Conservative Party ideology, they instead went into partnership with them! Now that their members of the SNP are aware of, and learning about, what has been done in their name perhaps we may see some differences in approach to this huge change in the party’s position of now adopting right-wing policies.

Now that the work of the Salvo Freeports Team is finally bearing fruit and the National has helped shine the light of truth into the darkness of secrecy, we can expect much more to be heard in opposition to these “Green Freeports”.

MY COMMENTS

I think the Salvo Freeport’s team are doing a very good job in raising awareness about this issue. All Indy supporting politicians should be all over this. That they are not perhaps highlights how they have lost trust and increasingly people are asking “whose side are they on?” The map at the top of this article shows just how much of Scotland is being affected with these different types of favourable policies, for corporations, enterprise and Freeports development.not for the Scottish people.
Being constructive here is my alternative. Become Independent then use Scotland’s vast energy surplus to provide cheap energy to businesses creating substantial numbers of well paid jobs. Fortunately manufacturing industry often combines the need for a lot of energy alongside major job employment. Tax them on their profits and use the money to build up our infrastructure rather than that of the South of England. This is not difficult to achieve with a bit of commitment to winning our freedom in the first place. Real beneficial new Scottish ports not giveaway freeports bringing no tax revenues to Scotland.

I am, as always,

Yours for Scotland

BEAT THE CENSORS

Sadly there are still some sites, fewer in number these days, who are intent in censoring posts from bloggers who do not slavishly follow the policies of one political party. They are opponents of the basic human right of Free Speech. Fortunately my readers can confound the censors by liking and sharing my articles as widely as they can. My sincere thanks to all that do.

  1. Alex,

Thank you for a well researched and written piece of work. Before I came across @EuropeanPowell on Twitter (never X) and read his eye opening and jaw dropping claims about Freeports and SEZ’s I had absolutely no idea about them and what their consequences for the wider public and Scotland as a whole.

Grangemouth refinery is being repurposed to take advantage of the tax avoiding schemes within these areas. It’s ceasing to refine petrol and diesel and instead will produce LPG/LNG mainly for export. And all the profits will not be subject to UK tax as we understand it.

Of course, this is only one example of which there are numerous cases where the local and national population will suffer a downturn in public services and amenities. If corporation and individual tax contributions are going to decline under this scheme them who will pay the shortfall in revenue to maintain the NHS et al? (Rhetorical question).

Thank you again for your good work and bringing this subject to the public’s attention.

    James

  2. The thing is, for me the moment . I’m thinking about what’s taught to children in schools. My weans were ‘tuned from an early age. Not dictated to. Just brought up to think for themselves. I know for a fact this doesn’t happen in most family units. What is Modern Studies for? And then you get the woke brigade in schools. Paid for by us. The useless teaching weans Nutella and banana, rather than real life and how politics and history will and does have an impact on your life and those around you. We’re in a dark well of our own making. Go for the children say the perverts and enablers. It’s a tragedy. I’m angry.

  3. Given what we know about the Scottish parliament, particularly the SNP, whose, possible future leader was a central protagonist in the bringing of Freeports to Scotland, shouldn’t we, very consciously, just wash-our-hands of the blatantly, colonial entity that the Holyrood parliament so evidently is? I’m not yet a member, but it seems to me that the only political party in Scotland that is in harmony with my thinking is the ISP, as was illustrated by Colette Walker’s recent piece here on Yours for Scotland. It is surely the ISP that deserves our support and serious consideration, certainly not the feckless, Westminster branch-.officials of the SNP.

  4. We are quickly heading towards the early 20th century way of employment. I had hoped the sight back then, of men and women queuing outside industrial units waiting and praying, that this day they would gain employment for pennies, would never again be seen in a resource rich Scotland. Unless unions and local small businesses start raising hell with their MSP and the Scottish Government those sickening, degrading scenes will soon return to Scotland where we then become a fully fledged region of Greater England.. This is not a Scottish version of “Project Fear”, this is only a realistic outcome of these “Free/Green Ports”.

    1. Thanks for your post Stan. My grandfather was one of about 400 released from a JPW. He returned to Scotland and couldn’t find a job. Went to the harbour every day for work. Hard man and hard worker. He died at 50. Sickening

  5. There is one proposed in SW England which covers Dartmoor, a granite upland with a history of matal mining. I wonder whether it would allow mineral extraction unhindered by National Park designation, Planning Permission, Pollution Controls (lead, arsenic?) and the like.

You who know Scotland better than I may wish to bear this in mind. Underground coal gassification and other gas extraction comes immediately to mind.

  6. I know the intent of FreePorts.

I know who will benefit. I know who won’t

I know the damage that they will cause.

Why did the SG pretend that they did not?

Why are the MSM Journalists so silent?

  7. Thankfully, we’re hearing from a growing number of better informed and knowledgeable Scottish people; so, perhaps most of us can be thankful and appreciative of this more positively inclined thinking?

The so-called ‘UK’ has existed for centuries… However, nowadays, whilst we understand that normal populations are often misinformed; Scotland’s sovereignty is entirely within it’s population! We will be free to end this so-called Union in the near future. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

  8. We are bought and sold… We have no say. Successive governments in Westminster and Holyrood have “franchised” our basic industries, extraction and processing of our resources, and our services, to UK and foreign exploiters, for pennies.

  9. This is yet another mess dumped on us. It like so many other recent policies and events lately has truly sickened me against Holyrood. I can never vote SNP again, nor Alba as I see this as the same.

    Freeports have angered me greatly.
I am just starting to contribute monthly to the ISP as I did with Salvo three months ago. Without funds we cannot progress.
Regrettably my home situation does not allow much time to be active although I am making a series of YouTube videos to spread the word. Every little helps so they say.

    Thank you for this article.

  10. Regarding freeports – and not just the Scottish ones – “…see Eyes passim ad nauseam…”, as they say.

They’ve been particularly interested in Ben Houchen, Teesside and money siphoning in the main, but others crop up too.
