HOW MUCH TROUBLE ARE THE SNP IN UP IN SCOTLAND

I took part in this programme and thought it a decent discussion. I particularly enjoyed shooting down Sir John Curtice’s view that Labour would benefit, not easy given the mess the SNP are making of things currently.

BEAT THE CENSORS

Regretfully there are some among us who seek to censor what others read. Sadly within the YES movement there are sites which claim to be pro Indy but exist to only promote one Party and will not publish articles which come from bloggers who don’t slavishly support that Party to the exclusion of the rest of the YES movement. I ask readers who support free speech to share articles from Yours for Scotland as often as possible as this defeats the effectiveness of the censors.

FREE SUBSCRIPTIONS

Free subscriptions are available on the Home and Blog pages of this site. This allows, for an email of each article to your Inbox and that is now how several thousands get my articles each day. This avoids problems that some have experienced gaining access from Twitter and Facebook. You will be very welcome to choose whatever route works best for you.

SALVO

The work and important development of Salvo has been a beacon of hope in 2022 and as it develops Salvo is creating campaigning hubs throughout Scotland. Salvo will join  with Liberation.Scot and as the campaigning arm of Liberation we are looking at very effective campaigns kicking off very early this year and introducing some new campaigning methods as well as those that have worked well in the past. This requires money so all donations to this site, once the running costs are covered, will go to support the work of Salvo/ Liberation. I think you will see it well used and effective.

LIBERATION.SCOT

We are seeking to build Liberation.Scot to at least 100,000 signatures just as quickly as we can. This is part of our plan to win recognition as an official Liberation Movement via the United Nations. We intend to internationalise our battle to win Independence and through the setting up of our Scottish National Congress will prepare and develop our arguments to win progress in the International Courts. Please help by signing up at Liberation.Scot. It is from those who sign up to Liberation.Scot that the membership of the SNC will be created by ballot.

  1. For once I quite liked listening to the news. John appeared to be all about Labour but failed to understand that if you definitely want independence then it’s very unlikely that they would. Then he spoke about women would be annoyed with husband and wife running Scotland but as a woman I disagree, Peter could have stood down or Nicola accept that she couldn’t run for FM. A lot of companies have a no dating rule or did due to many problems which could arise from this. John’s comment in regards to the EU is too early because the most important debate and discussion is independence and as Iain rightly said that’s for afterwards.
I think overall Chris and Iain have a better understanding about what is going on and what is required. It’s good that the Scottish National Congress steering group was mentioned, people might perhaps look it up to find out more upon viewing this.

  2. I think the lowest turnout the history of the Scots parliament is on the cards. Particularly in the first past the post part of it. Scottish Nationalists will stay at home in fair numbers. Without wholesale clean out and an SNP committed to Independence voters will have nowhere to go bar Alba and the ISP on the list. .

  3. Sir John Curtice, was his predictable BBC talking-head self, which, of course, helps to explain why he’s a Knight of the Realm. He also seems to be quite removed (unlike, Chris Banbury), from the terms-of-reference of the debate that most of us who visit this site are engaged in. If his facial-expressions tell us anything at all, it’s that he didn’t take-kindly to you when you reminded him that there are alternative ways to view the current political situation in Scotland, other than his or that of the BBC. Well done, Iain!

    1. Yes, I’m afraid Sir John is used to a different calibre of debaters in the British media, all speaking from the British perspective which is customary. He seemed uncomfortable having Chris Bambury and Iain there with a far deeper understanding of Scottish politics as seen from within unlike himself, always being outside. Labour has many factors working against it, such as weak leaders in Scotland and in the UK party and far more damagingly, still being the same New Labour party which lost votes over time in Scotland.

The problem for the Unionist parties is systemic in that they are trapped within the failing political structures of the UK and can’t offer anything new, just more of the same as the other parties, only with a slightly different colour. That is part of the problem with the SNP too, being trapped within the same political system which in the end was bound to consume them. The obvious escape from this entrapment was to work honestly for independence but they chose the route which suited their personal ambitions and the SNP is now suffering its deserved fate.

( I sensed that Curtice really felt out of his depth when both Chris and Iain were able to speak knowledgably from their own personal experience in Scotland of its politics over their lifetimes, something that he cannot match.)

  4. I quite enjoyed that just a shame that to hear a grown up discussion about the mess the SNP are in you have to go to a broadcaster outside this country. You spoke well for a big rough bugger and love the farmers tan from your time in the former colonies. Well done and hope you are enjoying your break even if playing golf the sport of the devil..

    1. Yeah, I kind of felt like he was there solely to try sell Labour, personally I wouldn’t ever vote for any party that doesn’t support the Scottish people’s right to self determination no matter what.

  5. Thanks Iain. Great to hear your solidly informed input on such a forum. Another dynamic of course is that of the ALBA Lifeboat’s ongoing rescue of veteran activists cast overboard from the whirlpool-trapped ‘Ship of Fools’ which the SNP has now become. Hopefully with such additional proficient crew ALBA will secure its own electoral beach head soon.

  6. I was watching “Sir” John Curtice while Iain was speaking and he looked as if he’d swallowed a wasp!

    Great discussion though.

  7. Well done Iain.
Curtice was trying to influence Scottish voters, not predict voting. You will be off his Christmas Card list now.

  8. Thoroughly enjoyed that – Sir John is on a hiding to nothing if he thinks we will all return to labour in droves.
I have yet to meet any independence supporter who has decided that they will say NO next time.

  9. Well done Iain.

Like maist Scots fowk commenting here imply, Prof Curtice has considerable difficulty in really understanding the urgent need for Scottish independence from a Scottish cultural (in its widest sense) perspective, and for a rather obvious reason.

  10. The SNP will be toast at the next elections. Independence activists know they are not an independence party, politically aware voters know they are Stalinist both in their control and their abuse of their power and everyone knows they are incompetent.

ALBA need to seize this day with very little time to do it. No political party will be the key to our independence – Salvo and liberation.scot are the path – but we need keep unionist/slurping parties out of the seat of devolved power, such as it is. Everything will be easier with a competent, strong voice in Holyrood. Not to mention the fact we are now circling the drain and none of the current incumbents in that building can be considered competent.
    Vote for competence
    Vote for Scotland
    Vote for ALBA

  11. That was an excellent debate. Kudos to the interviewer too. So often people shout over each other or don’t address the questions and, when it comes to anything Scottish, MSM have an entire platoon of supercilious hosts and commentators when it comes to anything Scottish; hopefully we will see less of them and have more of this type of respectful discussion.

    1. Clootie I suspect they are testing the water to see how many activists they have left – and using the very few that remain before they have to run off with the branch money. Hopefully this will blow up in the faces of the entitled incompetents who have seized the SNP and they will be forced to face the truth: the nuSNP have ruined the SNP. Our job is to make sure they stop ruining Scotland and don’t take down the cause for independence in their own sordid demise.

  12. I must admit this coronation thing just leaves me cold. I have resisted the desire to knit a load of bunting and hold a street party and on the big day as I can’t make it to Glasgow I will likely go fishing livestock permitting. The stooshie over the stone of destiny also does not get the juices flowing as it is a rock that may be a failed attempt at a stone water trough and holds no special powers so any old rock would do. The oil that was formulated in the holy land to anoint King Charles is supposed to be new recipe so as not to use any animal products so if they can change this to vegan why not change the rock for something a bit more user friendly to ease the pressure on the regal piles. I can’t wait to see which outfit our first minister wears on the big day as he does like to cut a dash so something Brigadoon themed would be good.
