FINANCIAL STATEMENT

“TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH A RECKLESS ECONOMIC GAMBLE” SAYS ALBA’S HANVEY

ALBA Westminster Leader Neale Hanvey MP has reacted to the Chancellor’s financial statement. Speaking today (Friday) Mr Hanvey said:

“The Tories have embarked on a reckless economic gamble where interest rates go through the roof, sterling through the floor, public services are left to rot while the rich get richer and working people have their living standards ravaged by inflation.

“Thatcherism first brought unfettered greed to the fore in my lifetime. Avarice fed by the steady destruction of the post-war social contract and the bargain basement sell off of public assets and resources. The financial crisis of 2008 was the result of reckless lending driven by the banker’s bonus culture, yet it’s been the rest of us; nurses, doctors, shop-workers, the disabled and disadvantaged who’ve been stuck with the bill. After more than a decade of austerity, stagnant wages and the erosion of public services and welfare, the new  Prime Minister’s economic plan once again places corporate greed and tax cuts for the rich before the needs of the people.

“Privatisation’s only success has been to channel public funds into the hands of shareholders. Failing markets have been bailed out on the back of the poor. Cutting tax on poverty wages won’t heat homes or put food on the table. Whatever the economic question is, “Trussenomics” is not the answer. It’s just the latest label for a culture of greed that relies on a falsehood that wealth trickles downwards. If we’ve learnt nothing else in the last decade, we know this to be a lie used as cover for the continued robbery of the public purse by the already obscenely wealthy.”

  1. People are missing the point of what the Torys are up to . 60 billion of Tax payers money grabbed by a greedy elite for 6 months subsidy when to renationalise the energy companies would only costs a messaly 3 Billion in comparison so where is the logic . The EU are taxing the energy companies with a windfall tax why not the UK. The Torys are trying to ratchet up the National debt to declare shortly that we cannot afford the NHS. This is the big prize they are after that is why the energy crisis has been engineered. We must jettison Tory England as soon as possible or we will go down with them. Next election should be a plebiscite AUOB on a Dissolve the Union ticket.

  2. the truth is wealth is hoovered upwards never to return or help provide spending power to the people. only putting the power (money) in their hands can an economy be stimulated. Cuts never produce growth.

    1. @scottishnative, There is absolutely nothing I can find to disagree with in your post. I too have stepped away, I know many in my family have. We will always vote for Independence, But Politics in general is a joke for us now. Yes, I jumped for delight when Alex Salmond came back with ALBA & yes, we are founding members. But I do not believe now, that INDY will happen for this country, Not until the people get off their knees as the Irish did & actually come together as one & TELL WM where to go. They sing of sending them “home to think again” with Gusto, & Scotland the Brave, is just a bloody joke in my opinion. England in my opinion is a puppet that dances to the TUNES of America & America will never allow Scotland to become INDEPENDENT as they need their nasty dirty nuclear war heads based right here. Dirty politics which won England their Brexit vote, is also what lost us our referendum in 2014 & it will always cost us elections and referendums. Our only hope is another John Connely who will be able to stir the nation into a movement big enough & angry enough that they will TELL WM where to go..

  6. Neale is a great speaker, such passion and anger for the injustices Scotland is burdened with by these rich bloodsucking thieves in WM and remember only the Alba MPs, Neale and Kenny walked out of WM in protest. The SNP sat and did nothing. Some of the SNP Sneered with the tories. We see right through you! It’ seems to me…Many of the SNP will moan about the tories on camera. But do nothing behind the scenes to help Scots get independence. (Remember vote SNP and no other party, and SNP 1 and 2) Many of them appear to be careerists and rely on the status quo and comfortable lifestyles gained from their position. They are now becoming an obstacle and a hinderance to independence, the overwhelming reason they were elected for in the first place was independence. It’s well past time the SNP nailed their colours to the mast and followed the lead of the guts and inspiration we see in the ALBA party. Like the SNP used to be, with Alex, Winnie, Margo and Sillars. If the good SNP members don’t get their finger out and force their leadership into action they will be condemned by history in a shameful ending of a great party. What will their legacies be? One to be proud of? Or one of shame, self interest and fine dining while freezing Scots starve to death and have their homes and resources stolen.
I know there are good people still in the SNP. But how much longer can you stand by and watch as your leadership is below decks in the Captains Cabin and your ship is in the doldrums? If you lie down with dogs, you will get up with fleas.
Scotland can’t afford to wait any longer. We need action already. Our politicians don’t have the stomach for what’s ahead but we will have to put their arms up their back and force them into moving forward. We need political fighters that can win not capitulators, careerists and feint hearted pen pushers.
The people are going to be key to help lead this from now on. Salvo, Alba and those who will put Scotland’s interests first will be representing us. Make sure you’ve signed the Edinburgh declaration at liberation.scot and get as many folk on board as you can. Our window is closing, we need to move now if we want a peaceful route to restoring our independence.

      1. Keep trying. For obvious reasons, the site is being attacked on a daily basis by those who want it to fail. Persevere. Try it on different devices. It took me a while, but I’m now registered on there

Then if you still have problems try again later or with another browser. There is a bit of underhand cyber attacking going on to try and prevent people signing, I’m told. They are on the case and aware of it.

      3. Yeah I have got the same problem signing the Declaration so does my brother, It is being interfered with by the dark state. Salvo need to take it out on to the streets so everyone can sign.
This is the nature of the British state, get use to it, it’s only going to get worse, you just need to look at our Irish cousins to see what the Brits are capable of and the Irish dont have oil, gas and electricity abundance as we have. They dont want us to go and will stop us at all costs.

  7. I heard someone today compare the Chancellor’s financial statement to Robin Hood in reverse.

The king of winning VONC’s John Swinney had the audacity to complain about it, knowing fine well that if his boss Sturgeon hadn’t sold Scotland out, that independence would’ve allowed us to make our own financial decisions and mitigate some of the hardships facing Scots brought about by being trapped in this God forsaken onesided union.

  8. Nobody by now should be surprised. During the pandemic there was a huge wealth transfer. Everyone knows that the real problem for us is not being independent. They will use the media to highlight the negative, they will say that the Scottish government should do the same but they will not say that this could be prevented if we were free from Westminster and the UK.

  9. Has nobody noticed the increase in sales on Scottish property in the islands and mini castles and mansions lately? The Scottish Daily Express has an article on Charles’s proposals for derelict properties here as well. Oh and whoever said earlier about having no gold, well there’s an Australian company currently mining Scottish gold but they are allowing the few selected jewellers to sell it exclusively. How kind.

  10. The benefit of the income tax reductions announced today are that folks earning circa £150K will have an additional disposable income of +£3000 free to invest in shares and so fund companies to invest in “new” efficiency technology, improve the companies’ profitability and improve shareholder dividends.

For folks on say £20K per annum the reduction in income tax to 19% will provide them with around £80 per annum, free to invest in shares – in your local foodbank for instance?

“Let them eat cake” should be printed in every banknote and coin of the Bank of England..

  11. When very rich people get even more money handed to them, this is surplus money to them. The notion that Tuss is punting that the benefits of this will “trickle down” to the poorer part of the population did not work when the economically illiterate Thatcher said the same. The rich got richer and the poor got poorer. The same will happen now.

After WWII Britain was broke. A few years later McMillan was able to say “You never had it so good.” This was because the Labour government invested in public projects which employed people at local levels. These people earned money and they spent a considerable part of it in the local community. (When somebody rich gets money they bank it or spend it on luxury goods; when a poor person gets money they spend it on food, clothes and necessities giving employment to local shops and businesses.)

However, Truss and the tiny minority of the UK population which is the Tory party membership have given themselves three years to rip as much out of the rest of us as they possibly can, starting with eye watering tax breaks for the mostly white, male and rich Tory membership. As a first guess I would say RIP NHS. The Tories will sell it to the USA.

Having enriched themselves they will probably hand over government to Labour who will not redress the wrongs and will waffle about wringing their hands.

    Independence now!

  12. Apologies for this TikTok link but the comments that this pro Brexit hard right Tory Mark Littlewood expressed on a Sky interview brings into sharp focus the vile scum that have control in this country.

    https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMFRYfRTM/

And the quote – ” if all you care about is the distributional impact of the tax cuts then you’re not going to like this package if all you care about is the poor. ”

And that is why ladies and gentlemen top earners, like bankers and captains of energy utilities are getting huge tax cuts. What absolute suckers the Great British public are, absolute diarrhea suppers if that is not too rude an analogy. What other people would quite honestly put up with this, save maybe the Scots.

  13. It is worth pointing out that this is not robbing the public purse as Hanvey puts it. It is allowing people to keep more of the money they have earned in their own pockets rather than extracting it from them via taxation. I will state that I am not in the bracket that would have paid the higher rate, but I do think that relying on high earners to subsidise the rest of us is short sighted economics.
