Press Release

PRESS RELEASE NO EMBARGO
Day for Democracy – September 19th

Something is happening across Scotland. The language of the independence debate is changing – colonialism, popular sovereignty, the Claim of Right, the constitutional settlement … Suddenly, the old, accepted portrayal of Scotland as a ‘partner in a Union’ is being reframed and the meaning of Scottish ‘independence’ with it. Something is happening and it promises to change the way we see ourselves, our nation and the road to Scottish independence.

We hear more and more about Scottish popular sovereignty but what does it really mean and what should that look like? Does it threaten or can it, instead, empower Scotland’s elected representatives? On Tuesday 19 September, 2023, at 11:00 am, the Stirling Directive will be delivered to the Scottish Government. This historic document is the first ever to instruct and demand that our elected representatives respect the sovereignty of Scotland’s people and honour the mandates that have been afforded the Scottish Government.

In the afternoon, the principles and implications behind the Stirling Directive will be explored in depth. Bruno Kaufmann, Global Democracy Correspondent of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation will be at Broughton St Mary’s Parish Church at 2pm on 19th September, to discuss popular sovereignty, what we call democracy in these United Kingdoms, what real democracy would look like and more.

Bruno Kaufmann has followed Scotland’s political development closely. He developed the training programme for Catalan independence supporters, ‘How to Win a Referendum in Four Hours’and has travelled the world to support stakeholders in the democratic process on behalf of the German non- governmental organisation, Democracy International. He is recognised worldwide as a leading, direct democracy advocate, consultant and expert. Please come along and ask questions! For more information or to confirm please contact welcome@stirlingdirective.scot

Yours,
Sara Salyers (for the Stirling Directive Committee)

    1. Good plan B if no-one comes to the door to receive this, though pasting it on might work better if the door is not wood and a pot of glue is less likely to be regarded as an offensive weapon than a hammer!

  1. Sadly the main block is now is the SNP.
Division of the Indy Movement is causing a great deal of frustration.

AUOB, The YES groups, ALBA, ISP, Salvo etc etc have a clear goal. Unfortunately the SNP are only interested in vote harvesting.
The Empire always sought to divide anyone who opposed their rule. It looks like that task has been contracted out to the SNP.

If the SNP dictate conditions such as EU membership, GRR then they miss the entire concept of Sovereignty of the People. The want Holyrood to replace Westminster.

The phrase “The majority of MSPs backed GRR” sent a clear message to the peasants. That a handful of people will shape Scotland as they decide it should look without any input from US.

    1. SNP are now agents of
      the United Kingdom of
      Great Britain, Northern
      Ireland Blah Blah fking
      Blah.

      We, once independent,
      must redefine meaning
      of words like politics, &
      democracy. Then ban all
      political parties.

  2. The question I ask of those in favour of self-determination and independence is “do you really want to replace Westminster with a clone of Westminster created by Westminster?”

With a few notable exceptions, our current crop of politicians are not just averse to Direct Democracy, they are terrified of Direct Democracy! Despite their regular utterings of “The People of Scotland are Sovereign” they are terrified to lose control and the confrontational politics with which they are so familiar and quite comfortable thank you very much!

The Stirling Directive is a reassertion of our rights and our Sovereignty and we will continue to reassert those rights. Therefore, the politicians currently against Direct Democracy need to think again or be left behind by the People of Scotland. Those that stand against the People of Scotland will be remembered and never forgiven.

The delivery of the Stirling Directive is an opportunity for all to be a part of the history of Scotland and they can then tell their children and grandchildren “I WAS THERE!”

    1. SOA May I first thank Iain, Sara and the other extremely hard working members of SALVO, SSRG and Liberation .Scot for continuing to EXPOSE and EDUCATE Scots to the POWER that they DO actually hold to DEMAND that our politicians listen to the electorate
SOA I have been commenting and posting for ages that the very few occasions ANY politician has mentioned the COR it is as a diversionary tactic, there is NO belief or commitment from any of them that it is a core tenet that is at the foundation of our constitution , for them it is just another SLOGAN and one to be dispensed with when they are elected

I posted recently on WOS that the ALBA convention that Sara first spoke at when she elaborated on the COR and the convention of the estates the room was in uproar in agreement with her exposures and information but unfortunately that excitement was immediately tempered and silenced by Mr Salmond’s insistence that any COE would be formed by the great and the good from Scottish society , the same great and the good of Scotland who work with WM to accommodate the continuation of our colonisation
Just like others I don’t want a mirror setup of WM where the fodder (electorate) have NO SAY or control (except at elections) for the next round of buggins turn politics where political parties and politicians each take their turns at destroying Scotland and the only ones who benefit are politicians and their bankers , I want a system where lies and corruption are PUNISHED not rewarded and IMO that can only come about through a genuine PEOPLE’S ASSEMBLY where INDIGENOUS Scots Born people CONTROL their politicians and government
We have the opportunity to build our country better and that starts with the electorate taking back control from lying corrupt politicians who promise everything and give NOTHING , we have had unending promises of nationalised energy utilities and an end to food banks and homelessness , YET we still have hypothermia deaths with RICKETS on the increase in our children due to malnourishment in a supposed rich country , are there ANY cold or starving politicians

      1. Everyone is working extremely hard at Salvo, Liberation, SNC/ Stirling Directive and the progress made in just over 1 year is amazing. True, the conditions were made favourable by our elected representatives with their actions and inactions taking us further away from independence and Salvo et al have been the beneficiaries.

However, the change in language and ideas throughout the Yes Movement in such a short time illustrates to me that our elected representatives have been asleep at the wheel of our chosen “vehicle for independence”!

Scotland and its people are now waking up to the realities of what sovereignty really means and they are extremely receptive to the concept of Direct Democracy. Just this morning at our local hospital I spoke with a couple of ladies who were at the table next to me in the cafeteria who asked about Salvo – perhaps it was because I was wearing a Salvo hoodie!! After around 15 minutes they loved the idea of DD and people being in control of the agenda, the development of policies and legislation. One of the ladies asked me “does that mean politicians have to do what they promised to do in their manifestos?”

That took us on to Westminster-style confrontational politics as compared with the Consensual Politics of Switzerland. It was at that point they called over a couple of their friends who had just entered with, “come over here and listen to this”. That’s why I’m so late getting back home!

I have not yet heard anything negative when discussing DD but it’s bound to come at some point. The only point that has been raised a couple of times was “but will the politicians let you do that” – exactly!

      2. Your contention that only Scots BORN have any say is too strict. I was born on England while my Scots born mum lived with my English born dad. Our family came to live in Scotland in 1960, I was 7, my sister was 2. I feel Scottish, choose to spend my life here, in Edinburgh. I will always support independence. You think I should have no right to that?

      3. I know from seeing your name numerous times on various blogs that you are undoubtedly an independence supporter but I still believe that a people’s assembly should only be represented by Scots born indigenous people , I know that is a contentious issue but when I look back to 2014 and realise what we have lost due to accommodating every Tom Dick or Harry from anywhere to decide the constitutional future of Scotland I get angry that indigenous people have to suffer the sabotage of our kindness and inclusion
I wonder if they had their chance again the Aborigines , Maoris , First nation Canadians , First nation Americans , or any other colonised nation would choose to be more aware of what the outcome would be for their future
I mean no disrespect to yourself or anyone else, the truth is that any indigenous person born anywhere is an accident of birth but the reality is that irrespective of choice of citizenship or not that person is still a national of their country of birth, that does not change

      4. Preamble : Just as Sara had to dig deep into Scotland’s past for Salvo – for the Declaration initiative I had to dig deep into international law – particularly related to Treaties – one such being the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement – in its majority it is an international Treaty – but is also hybrid to allow for changes to internal domestic laws both in the UK and Ireland. There is much to learn from the Treaty itself – but also from what was and has been agreed since.

On Topic: This is an example …

“The British and Irish Governments declare that it is their joint understanding that the term “the people of Northern Ireland” in paragraph (vi) of Article 1 of this Agreement means, for the purposes of giving effect to this provision, all persons born in Northern Ireland and having, at the time of their birth, at least one parent who is a British citizen, an Irish citizen or is otherwise entitled to reside in Northern Ireland without any restriction on their period of residence.”

      5. Iain with respect a residency qualification of 10-15 years is okay to apply for citizenship but I disagree that it should negate the necessity of Scots born or indigenous Scot to be appointed to a People’s Assembly , Toni’s children the same as others if they were born in Scotland would have the ability to serve in a Scottish People’s Assembly
We have had the unfortunate experience of a despicable narcissistic deviant deliberately opening up a consultation to the world in an attempt to gerrymander opinions on issues that threaten the safety of our womenfolk and children to persons with a vested interest, persons who have no right to a say on Scottish issues and may never even set foot in Scotland , unfortunately for her that consultation never produced the results she thought it would , BUT nevertheless she still continues to pursue her despicable agenda against the overwhelming opposition from ordinary citizens

She has also co-opted into government allies of her deranged agenda and made them ministers to further force through her policies , despite those individuals only receiving the number of votes equivalent to the customer base of a good chip shop , all done without the approval of the electorate, and the insistence of people who have not long arrived in Scotland

We also have the unfortunate experience of politicians adopting a franchise on our constitution that allowed foreign students and other countries nationals to vote on our right to be a free country , a right that should only be determined by the indigenous people , and yet those politicians STILL insist that franchise will still be used despite proof that it sabotaged the vote

In each of these examples and more a People’s Assembly of Scots born indigenous people would be saying to those politicians , NO you are not on SOVEREGN Scots determine what is best for Scotland
Politicians will say and do whatever gets them votes and keeps them in POWER and once they have that power they will do ANYTHING to keep that power

  3. (Iain – as ever I leave it to you to allow this post.)

I hope to attend on Tuesday – and offer what follows as information on the Declaration of a Sovereign Scot initiative. Post elsewhere related to the Scotland United rally tomorrow. It reads:

Do you consent to the continuation of the Treaty of Union?

Are you willing to exercise your Claim of Right as a Sovereign Scot?

Are you willing to sign your name with your answer to that question?

Tomorrow at the Scotland United rally, you can join all the other Sovereign Scots who have already done so, by signing their individual Declaration of a Sovereign Scot. The world is watching, and the world already knows their answer!

I will have blank Declaration forms at the Rally – ready for your signature. I hope to meet you there.

      1. Online? Over two years ago, with The National involved that was tested. It was nealy immediately hacked and/or abused. (Thus the test.)

Post out and back? With the numbers involved, the postal costs I might have to bear, and also possible further abuse – giving out my address etc, the cost of a PO Box etc, I decided against, but not as a final conclusion (see below). Instead I committed to attend every rally, wherever they took place and have fulfilled that committment (bar my daughter’s wedding), plus Yes Stalls and other events, starting back in 2021.

I don’t want to get ahead of where I am – the initiative is being built in very defined Stages, and I hope to announce the final Stage – probably at or just after the AUOB rally in October. Everything to date is preparation and to create awareness – not just within Scotland but as part of gaining international recognition, well in advance.

Perhaps – for just now, keep an eye out for that announcement. I think it will clarify matters.

  5. All the talk of Independence and the SNP are quite quiet on the matter of Sovereign Scots. At least in no meaningful way. They are riddled with Westminster apologists, and of course their love of the money that comes their way.
So I do not believe for one minute they have the welfare of Sovereign scots at their heart. I am not talking of members here, as on that I do believe most surely want Independence but just the main politico group who are scared of their position, wages and pensions.

It is time for someone in the SNP, to agree with popular sovereignty of the people, to rise and put things right. Scots are sovereign, and always have been. Is there anyone in there that will take up the challenge ?, to use the will of the people as it should be used. If not, fire the lot of them and start anew with a new government without Westminster spies and apologists and let the people to decide who is 100% for Scotland and who is’nt. Along with or legal Claim of Right and people running things with the acknowledgement that the people through them are the ones in charge.

    1. Les Wilson says “It is time for someone in the SNP, to agree with popular sovereignty of the people, to rise and put things right. Scots are sovereign, and always have been. Is there anyone in there that will take up the challenge ?,”

There was one MSP who made a great speech on the Sovereignty of Scots, even mentioned the COR & also quoted “if but 100 of us remain”.. That person was Christine Graham. The other day, I watched her in a clip on twitter of FM questions, she sat NODDING in agreement at every word YUSELESS spoke in HR …
She has been one of the biggest disappointments in the SNP for me, as she has sat there doing NOTHING more than just turning up & Nodding since 2015… When people like her turn into carrot munchers what hope is there for this country? let alone that party changing for the better? it can’t & it won’t.. We have to trust in SALVO, SSRG, Liberation.Scot. I am a member of ALBA but although I still believe Alex to be the absolute best of Politicians in Scotland, I think his canny canny game and that stupid voting franchise is all wrong. At least Colette Walker had the guts to put herself forward & TRY..

I stopped watching FMs questions AND PM Question time in 2018.. I no longer believe POLITICIONS will free us from WM, we will get better governance with ALBA, as we did when Alex Salmond was FM.. But that is all we will get…

I know ALBA have the best people in that party that would make for great governance of this country. But they lack the courage of Sara & Alf Baird and so many others.. At least Colette walker makes it clear on her election board that IF she won the seat in Rutherglen & Hamilton West she would NOT take up that seat, she wants NOTHING to do with WM. SAs it should be with Every Scottish Politician. But it isn’t.. There will be Indy voters who will NOT vote for Colette because they still believe SNP will deliver, I now believe NO Party that is prepared to take seats in WM are serious about INDY for this country..

    1. EVERYTHING they are currently talking about (not even promising) they could have done over the last 9 years but they didn’t and won’t , as Les says it is a con to gain another 5 years sucking the WM money teat , there is NOTHING stopping the snp organising a Scottish referendum they don’t need any permission , a sect 30 is ONLY an agreement for WM to honour the outcome , they know we would vote for indy

It does not matter, what the SNP do, it does not matter, sec 30 or not. While I am sure some of the elites of the SNP are in league with Westminster, whatever moves the SNP make. Along with their agents inside the party, Westminster will cheat us again again. They have plenty practice in doing things like this.
The only difference this time ( if it happens at all) will be that they will be more neferious this time with the intention to finally destroy Scottish democracy. They can’t afford not too.

Our Claim of Right, is real, and still legal and that is the non political way to go. With all the evidence we have of them stealing our assets for centuries. Any scot of any party who believes in Scotland can join
Salvo and Liberation.scot. I suggest we all join, get the Uk into the required courts.

I would love to see them and their proxies squirm, in front of international courts.
